Consiliary and liaison psychiatry is a sub-specialty of psychiatry that focuses on the psychiatric care of physically ill patients. At the Zurich University Hospital, the psychiatric counseling and liaison service provides psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care to patients at all USZ clinics and is one of the largest institutions of its kind in Switzerland. The most common clinical pictures are triggered by the underlying disease itself and / or its treatment. The liaison service provides a range of services specific to other disciplines, such as psychiatric-psychotherapeutic support through visits, case-conferences and case-briefings for medical staff, involving the psychiatric aspects.
