Winners of the British Wildlife Photography Awards 2025
Organizers of the 2025 British Wildlife Photography Awards just announced their collection of winners and runners-up. More than 13,000 images were submitted in 11 different categories, celebrating the wildlife and wild spaces found across the United Kingdom. Competition organizers were kind enough to share some of this year's amazing images below. Captions were provided by the photographers. Urban Explorer. British Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2025 and Winner of Urban Wildlife. "For approximately three years, I had been photographing this vixen and was able to track her movements across the city. Surprisingly, she covered large distances, eventually moving over a mile away from her original parental territory. In the city, that means a lot of roads, hazards, and other fox territories to contend with. This streetwise fox was a successful mother and had a family of young mouths to feed." # The Rain-Deer. Animal Behavior, Runner-up. "At the end of September and up until December, I spend as much time as possible with the red deer, following them through all the stages of the rut in Bushy Park and Richmond Park in South England. After one of my social meet-ups with my Instagram friends, we were just getting ready to leave the park when the heavens opened! Instead of covering my camera, I saw the perfect opportunity to capture the pouring rain using a slower shutter speed than usual, hoping one of the stags would put on a show with a roar'and this was that moment!" #...

Winners of the 2025 Sony World Photography Awards Open Competition
The top entries in the 2025 Sony World Photography Awards Open Competition were just announced, and competition organizers have once again shared some of the winning and shortlisted photos selected from more than 419,000 submissions in 10 categories: Architecture, Creative, Landscape, Lifestyle, Motion, Natural World & Wildlife, Object, Portraiture, Street Photography, and Travel. Captions were provided by the organizers and photographers. Fever Tree Leopard. Shortlist, Natural World & Wildlife. "Encountering a leopard is a rare and breathtaking moment. This majestic feline was photographed at Lake Nakuru, Kenya, deep within a fever tree forest. It was initially perched on a branch but then strolled elegantly along its massive bough'a true bucket-list experience for the photographer." # Zaandam House. Shortlist, Architecture. "In the early 2000s, the Dutch architect Sjoerd Soeters was brought in to create an urban development plan for the town of Zaandam, near Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Among his plans was the facade of this hotel, which is composed of stacked houses reminiscent of traditional 'Zaanse Huisjes.'" #...

Xiaomi Focuses on Photography With Its Top-End 15 and 15 Ultra
I'm a fan of Xiaomi's new 15 and 15 Ultra flagship phones'even if they only bring incremental improvements over their predecessors. The Xiaomi 15 is a classy, compact competitor to the iPhone 16 or Pixel 9, but the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is a photographer's dream. Both are extremely well-rounded smartphones with exceptional hardware, and Xiaomi has polished its HyperOS software and infused it with AI'just like everyone else in the market. But there's still room for improvement. Unwelcome bloatware feels cheeky on smartphones this expensive, the design of the 15 is downright dull and identical to last year's Xiaomi 14, and there's no Qi2 support, which is sad because we're craving magnetic accessories for our Android phones. Neither phone is officially sold in the US. It's by no means unusual for the latest version of a phone to be indistinguishable from the one before. (Samsung and Apple, I'm looking at you.) But the Xiaomi 15 is identical. Even the colors are the same; I got a black review unit, but it also comes in white or green. That said, I do like the design. It's a compact phone that's easy to manage one-handed, the matte finish is fingerprint-resistant, and everything is gently rounded, making it very comfortable to hold....

Winners of the 2025 World Nature Photography Awards
The winning images and photographers of this year's World Nature Photography Awards have just been announced. Contest organizers have once more shared some of the winning images, shown below, from their 14 categories. Captions were provided by the photographers and have been lightly edited for style and clarity. First Place, Behavior, Mammals. "While cruising through the Svalbard archipelago, we encountered three polar bears feeding on several dolphin carcasses. Observing quietly from our boat at a respectful distance, we witnessed one of the bears starting to play with a stick. The bear was totally ignoring us in this moment of pure joy, revealing a surprising playfulness. The behavior reminds me of an energetic and playful golden retriever fetching a stick." # Winner, Behavior, Birds. "Tens of thousands of red knots and other coastal waders are forced from the remaining gravel bars and mudflats into flight by a high incoming spring tide. I had photographed this incredible event many times previously, but it was on this occasion only that the birds flew in a direction that was parallel to me, allowing me to get many of the birds in sharp focus." #...
