Most of the country has been sheltering in place and working from home for some time now. A significant portion of these students spend more than 100 hours each preparing for so-called case interviews â the favored evaluation method of elite consulting firms such as McKinsey, in which candidates are presented with a business problem and asked to talk through how they would solve the problem. This is a colossal waste of time. Case interviews are a terrible evaluation method; itâs time to end their use in hiring....
When I was a kid, I used to run a lemonade stand in my front yard every summer. I would stir up some yellow powder into a pitcher of lukewarm water and wait patiently for my patrons. And I did pretty good out there! Iâd make a dollar or two and dream of saving it up for some new roller skates or a funky-flavored lip gloss. Instead, Iâd almost always immediately spend it on something useless and instantly gratifying.
My income has thankfully increased as Iâve gotten older, but so has my anxiety about money.
